SEREMBAN (Malaysia) - Chinese Taipei secured a fifth-place finish in the FIBA U16 Women's Asia Cup 2025 following another dominant conquest of the Philippines, 103-72, at the Karisma Arena, Saturday.
The team from East Asia went off to a 21-7 start before building a 50-31 advantage just before the first half ended, eventually cruising to the 31-point victory to ensure a solid finish after barely missing the Semi-Finals.
It could be recalled that the former bronze medalists were mere seconds away from returning to the last four, only to get foiled by New Zealand and fall to a 74-70 decision in their Qualification to Semi-Finals encounter.
Chinese Taipei ended their campaign with a 3-2 record.
Gaio Zi-Qiao starred in the victory with 26 points, 7 rebounds, and 11 assists, indeed saving her best for last in a remarkable display of floor generalship, She also had 3 steals to finish with an efficiency of 44.
Chang Yu-Tung came through with a double-double of her own with 19 points and 10 rebounds, which she laced with 6 assists and 4 steals. Lin Nian-Zhen came through with 16 points, spiked by four triples.
Chang Hsun-Wen added 11 points as a total of nine players scored at least a field goal - a well-deployed offense that came about big thanks to their concerted effort to share the ball, as evidenced by their 34 assists.
They did their work on defense, too, as they racked up 16 steals toward repeating against the same team they handed a 74-48 beatdown during the Group Phase as both teams belonged to Group A.
Gilas Girls, on the other hand, were led by Ryanna Roman with 19 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field in the loss. Makeena Ramos was her lone support with 14 points, alongside 5 rebounds and 6 assists.
In their maiden Division A run, the Philippines finished with a 1-4 record overall.
