BEIRUT (Lebanon) – Five women were among the 29 who attended the FIBA Referees workshop in Mongolia conducted by the FIBA Regional Office-Asia’s continued efforts to further the development of game officiating in the region.
The three-day workshop (Aug 27-29) was held under the aegis of Mongolia Basketball Association in Ulaanbaatar in the days leading to the hosting of the FIBA U16 Asia Cup 2025.
The comprehensive program covered a wide range of topics from both theoretical and practical perspectives. Participants received the latest updates on refereeing standards and basketball rules, in addition to training in game management, communication techniques, and video analysis. Physical fitness sessions were also a key component of the workshop.
“Referee training is a cornerstone for the growth of basketball in Mongolia. Our referees are highly motivated to learn, embrace new knowledge, and continuously develop their skills,” said Tugsjargal Sambuu General Secretary of MBA.
“This recent training proved to be truly impactful, as participants gained valuable insights into the updated rules while also strengthening their practical experience. Such programs not only enhance the expertise of our referees but also contribute directly to the overall advancement of basketball in Mongolia,” he added.
“The three-day referee clinic was a tremendous opportunity for all of us involved in basketball officiating,” said Munkhzaya Jantsan, Head of Referees in MBA.
“We covered a wide range of important topics, including individual officiating techniques, the application and understanding of FIBA rules, and working as a team,” he added.
“What made this clinic particularly impactful was sessions connecting theory with real-life game situations, helping us better understand how to make accurate and confident decisions,” said FIBA Referee Burmaa Burneebaatar.
“The practical sessions, open discussions, and video analysis all contributed to a deeper appreciation of the responsibilities and standards expected of modern referees,” he added.
