AUCKLAND (New Zealand) - New Zealand will host its first FIBA Oceania Cup tournament in 11 years, when the FIBA U15 Oceania Cup comes to Eventfinda Stadium late this year.
The tournament, supported by Auckland Council Events, will host the tournament in Auckland’s premiere North Shore indoor stadium, with action tipping off November 30, culminating in the 2026 FIBA U15 Oceania Cup and FIBA U15 Women’s Oceania Cup finals on Saturday December 5.
It’s an incredibly exciting time for basketball fans in Aotearoa, as Oceania’s brightest young stars and future world stage contenders take to the hardwood floors across the course of the week, all vying for the title of 2026 FIBA U15 Oceania Cup champions and to book a ticket to next year’s FIBA U16 Asia Cup and FIBA U16 Women's Asia Cup.
“It’s incredibly special to see a youth FIBA event return to New Zealand after more than a decade," said FIBA Executive Director - Oceania, Amanda Jenkins. "Aotearoa has always played an important role in our region, and hosting the FIBA U15 Oceania Cups reinforces that connection. These tournaments are a vital step in the development pathway for our young athletes, giving them meaningful competition and a chance to grow on the international stage.”
Back in 2015, Wellington welcomed in three U16 Oceania Cup teams (Australia, Tahiti, New Caledonia) for the FIBA U16 Oceania Cup. When teams from around Oceania and the Pacific come to Auckland’s North Shore, it’ll be the first time this decade that New Zealand will host a FIBA tournament.
Basketball New Zealand Chief Executive, Belinda Edwards knows how exciting this opportunity is for Basketball in our country.
We’re incredibly excited to be hosting this year’s 2026 FIBA U15 Oceania Cup and the FIBA U15 Women’s Oceania Cup on Aotearoa’s shores. It’s been a while since New Zealand last hosted a FIBA tournament like this, but we can’t wait to welcome in our brothers and sisters from across Oceania to Tamaki Makaurau.
“This tournament brings in the best young athletes from across Oceania together. To have this level of basketball in our backyard is incredibly exciting.”
Tātaki Auckland Unlimited Head of Major Events, Cheyne Stevens says:
“We’re proud to support the FIBA U15 Oceania Cup and FIBA U15 Women’s Oceania Cup through Auckland Council Events and welcome this international basketball tournament back to Tāmaki Makaurau. Teams will compete at Eventfinda Stadium across the week as they chase qualification to the 2027 FIBA U16 Asia Cup and FIBA U16 Women’s Asia Cup.
