Szombathely stun Rostock to stay alive; Murcia seal top spot
Falco Vulcano Energia KC Szombathely kept their hopes of a spot in the Quarter-Finals and denied the Rostock Seawolves of securing that last ticket with a narrow 78-75 win in a tense Group K clash.
The Hungarian side led for the majority of the first half until the Seawolves made their move late in the second quarter. However, Szombathely regained the advantage with 2:05 to play in the third and held on despite late pressure from Rostock.
Arnaldo Toro produced a fierce double-double of 19 points and 14 rebounds to lead Szombathely. TJ Crockett led all scorers in vain with 21 for the Seawolves.
A blistering 15-0 start to the third quarter proved enough for UCAM Murcia to beat Energa Trefl Sopot 92-66 and remain unbeaten in Group K.
That run blew the game open in what was a closely-contested first half as Murcia turned a 43-36 halftime lead into a commanding 71-46 advantage, cruising to the finish line.
Three Murcia players led the way as Toni Nakic, Michael Forrest and Jonah Radebaugh all had 14 points. Szymon Zapala led all scorers in vain with 19 for Sopot.
Richard goes joint top of points table in Oradea win; Bosna beat Cedevita
CSM CSU Raiffeisen Oradea inflicted a first loss of the Second Round to Pallacanestro Reggiana, winning 81-77 as Kris Richard joins Michal Diouf at the top of the FIBA Europe Cup points table with 995 overall.
Dutch forward Emmanuel Nzekwesi led the winners with 19 points on 60 percent shooting, as Oradea aim to end their campaign on a high. Kris Richard had 9 points and needs just one more point to go first overall. Troy Caupain paced Reggiana with 19.
KK Bosna BH Telecom kept Cedevita Junior winless in the Second Round as Alfonso Plummer and Edin Atic starred in the 86-79 win.
Plummer led the victors with 16 points, while Atic filled the statsheet with 15 points, 8 rebounds, 6 asissts and 4 steals as they prepare to host Reggiana in the final game for top spot in Group L.
Mislav Brzoja led Cedevita with 21 as they drop to 0-5, having started the campaign 5-0 in the Regular Season.
Bilbao and PAOK continue dominant form in Group M
Surne Bilbao Basket were in no mood to let their devastating form drop as they beat BC Prievidza 93-51 to improve to 5-0 in Group M.
The holders raced to a 24-8 lead after the first quarter and never took their foot off the gas as Justin Jaworski led the way with 19 points in a convincing win. Naje Smith had 17 points and 13 rebounds for Prievidza as they fell to 1-4.
It was a similar story in Thessaloniki, as PAOK BC moved to 4-1 with a resounding 101-67 success over Sporting CP.
Already up by 11 points after the first quarter, the Greek side breezed clear in the second, outscoring their Portuguese counterparts 26-8 to ultimately seal the win. Cleveland Melvin hit four three-pointers en route to 18 points for PAOK.
Peristeri edge past Sassari in exciting battle
Peristeri Betsson got the better of Dinamo BDS Sassari 81-76 to maintain their form going into the Quarter-Finals.
Jacob Van Tubbergen led Peristeri with 19 points on 6-for-8 shooting as his side had to withstand a frantic fightback from the Italian outfit before seeing the game out with key defensive stops. Jacob Pullen had 15 for Sassari.
On Thursday, Casademont Zaragoza handed Aliaga Petkimspor their first loss of the Second Round with a 76-71 success. Isaiah Washington top scored in the win with 14 points, but the Spanish side are already eliminated.
