MANAGUA (Nicaragua) – The FIBA Women's AmeriCup 2027 Centrobasket Qualifier tips off this Sunday, July 12, at the Polideportivo Alexis Argüello in Managua, Nicaragua. The top eight national teams from Central America and the Caribbean will compete for three available spots in the FIBA Women's AmeriCup 2027. Before the action gets underway, here's everything you need to know to make sure you don't miss a thing.
How are the groups set up?
The eight teams have been divided into two groups of four:
What is the competition format?
A new competition system will be introduced for this edition of the tournament:
Each team will play one game against every other team in their group
The first-place team in each group advances directly to the Semi-Finals
The fourth-place teams in each group will play for places fifth through eighth
The second and third-place teams will cross over in the Quarter-Finals (2A vs. 3B and 2B vs. 3A)
The Quarter-Finals winners advance to the Semi-Finals to face the group winners, while the Quarter-Finals losers will play the fourth-place teams from each group for places fifth through eighth
At the end of the tournament, the top three finishers will qualify for the FIBA Women's AmeriCup 2027, excluding El Salvador, which has already qualified as the host nation.
What is the schedule?
There will be four games per day throughout the tournament, except on the Quarter-Finals day, when only two games will be played. A total of 22 games are scheduled. Find the full schedule below (swipe right).
Who is the defending champion?
Puerto Rico has dominated the region in recent years, winning four consecutive gold medals. In the most recent edition in 2024, they defeated the Dominican Republic 95-81 in the Final. Mexico claimed the bronze medal after beating El Salvador 84-64.

Who is the reigning MVP?
Puerto Rico's Arella Guirantes earned MVP honors in both the 2024 and 2022 editions. In the 2024 Final against the Dominican Republic, the shooting guard posted 40 points, 8 assists and 6 rebounds. She averaged 31.8 points, 6.8 rebounds and 6.5 assists throughout the tournament.
