    Mexico claims Group A feat in Americas Pre-Qualifiers

    CIUDAD OBREGÓN (Mexico) – Mexico beat Jamaica 90-61 on Sunday to finish undefeated in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Americas Pre-Qualifiers, held at the ITSON Arena in Ciudad Obregón, Mexico. The Mexicans confirmed their status as Group A favorites by securing three wins, averaging a 25-point margin of victory Both teams entered the final game already securing their tickets to the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Americas Qualifiers. The only question remaining was who would take the top spot in the group. By claiming first place, Mexico will be placed in Group A of the upcoming Qualifiers, while Jamaica will join Group B. The hosts once again relied on their long-range shooting to seal the win. On Sunday, they knocked down 16 three-pointers and averaged 14 per game throughout the tournament. Pako Cruz led the way with 6 triples, finishing with 21 points and 4 assists. Karim Rodríguez was the second-leading scorer for the winners with 15 points, while Israel Gutiérrez posted a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds.

    For Jamaica (2-1), Romaro Gill recorded 14 points and 13 rebounds, and Romaine Thomas added 11 points and 6 boards. Norman Powell did not suit up for the game.

    Barbados ends on a high note

    In the other group matchup, Barbados (1-2) defeated Costa Rica (0-3) 83-56. Kyrone Alexander stood out with 35 points, including 5 three-pointers, along with 16 rebounds and 4 assists. Carl Thorpe added a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds. FIBA
