Guam set for historic FIBA Asia Cup debut

Guam did enough to qualify for Asia Cup 2025 with a win against Thailand.

TAIPEI CITY (Chinese Taipei) - Guam are set to make a historic FIBA Asia Cup debut after finishing in second place in Group G of the Qualifying Tournament.

This will mark the first time that three teams from Oceania will be playing in FIBA's flagship competition for men National Teams in Asia with Guam joining defending champions Australia and New Zealand. FIBA Asia Cup 2025 will be hosted in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia from August 5-17.

Guam came close to qualifying for the Asia Cup in 2022, when they also advanced to the Qualifying Tournament for Third Place Teams, only to lose to Chinese Taipei on aggregate score. Guam also lost to Chinese Taipei in the opening game of the Qualifying Tournament in Taipei City this year, but were able to rally and win their second game against Thailand. That victory was enough for them to clinch a qualification spot after Thailand lost their clash against Chinese Taipei.
