ACCRA (Ghana) - The Spintex Knights are making their second foray into continental basketball. Having recently won their third consecutive Accra Basketball League title, they will enter the Road to BAL Elite 16 West Division tournament brimming with confidence.
History
Established in 2018, the Ghanaian club has risen from Division 2 of the Accra Basketball League to the Premier Division, winning the championship every year since 2023.
A brief introduction on the club's website reads: "The Spintex Knights Sporting Club is more than just a basketball team – we are a movement dedicated to elevating Ghanaian basketball to new heights. Founded in 2018, our mission is to develop talent, inspire communities, and compete at the highest levels both locally and internationally. Through our commitment to excellence, we aim to put Ghana on the global basketball map while fostering a culture of sportsmanship, teamwork, and social impact."
Coach
Coach Selorm Thomas is at the helm of the club. He led them to the Elite 16 last year, where they finished with a 0-3 record. This year again, Spintex is back at the Elite 16 under the leadership of Thomas, who will hope that this year's run goes better than last year's.
Key players
James Amotoe
During last year's Road to BAL, James Amotoe was a pivotal player for Spintex, averaging 20.6 points, 7.4 rebounds, and six assists.
Even in the preliminary phase, the forward maintained a consistently high level of performance, helping the Ghanaians advance to the Elite 16 for a second time.
With 19.3 points, five rebounds and 4.7 assists in the three preliminary games, he was Spintex's top stats player for the second time in the qualifiers.
Abdul Aziz Yakubu
The Ghana youth international appears to be settling into the professional ranks. At 17 years old, he's already making a mark for himself within the Spitex setup. His eight points and five assists have positioned him as a leading contributor to the Nobles getting to the Elite 16 phase of the Road to BAL.
How they qualified
Spintex made it to the Elite 16 Division West with a 2-1 record after wins over Benin's Elan Coton and Liberia's LPRC Oilers.
