MUNICH (Germany) - There was plenty to celebrate as the curtain fell on the EuroCup Women Qualifiers after UZKK Student and SBS Ostrava locked down the last two available places for the Regular Season. Meanwhile, 24 hours earlier, TARR KSC Szekszard, BDS Dinamo Sassari and Lointek Gernika Bizkaia all racked up aggregate wins in their respective Qualifiers matchups to ensure they also reached the main phase of the competition.
Serbian first-timers cut down Cluj again
A new chapter in Serbian basketball is being written by UZKK Student after they made the Regular Season with a comprehensive 174-151 aggregate win against Universitatea Cluj.
It had looked like their Romanian opponents might be on for a comeback after they raced into an early double-difit advantage, but UZKK came roaring back to take an 81-73 road win. It was built around Katherine Briggs who added 15 points and 7 rebounds, as well as 22 points from Nadezda Nedeljkov.
Slick SBS Ostrava sweep aside Swiss opponents
SBS Ostrava might have tied their first meeting with BBC Troistorrent-Chablais but there was a gulf between the teams in the rematch as the Czech club stormed their way to a vibrant 102-64 victory. The outcome was not in doubt after a scorching 30-18 opening which set them on the road to success. They were also helped by Marina Owodo posting a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Tereza Halatkova excelled with 18 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals.
Deja vu as Dombai shows out again for Szekszard
Already leading by double-digits from the first meeting, TARR KSC Szekszard made home advantage count as they inked an 84-55 success against DSK Basketball Brandys for a comprehensive 165-124 aggregate triumph. Once again it was Reka Dombai who showed her quality with another classy contribution of 30 points.
The Hungarian guard made 11 of 13 from the floor in a stellar shooting effort. There were also double-doubles from Maria Gakdeng with 14 points and 11 boards, as well as Liza Karlen with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Gernika too good for Giannina
Lointek Gernika Bizkaia already had one foot in the Regular Season after a one-sided win in Greece against PAS Giannina and the outcome was no different on Spanish soil as they complete a 94-61 victory.
Five different players racked up double-digit scoring returns, with Masa Jankovic and Sarah Polleros sharing 36 points for the victorious side.
Sassari slip past Panathlitikos
Holding a 16-point advantage from their first clash, BDS Dinamo Sassari finished the mission with a hard-fought 66-62 win against Panathlitikos Sykeon. As with the first leg, Dutch forward Kourtney Treffers was a standout figure and added 10 points and 13 rebounds.
