August 28 Top Performers: Doncic, Hollis Jefferson, Le'afa, Al-Dwairi and Milutinov

MANILA (PHILIPPINES) - Gameday 4 of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 featured the very first player to record his second appearance on our daily Top Performers list in this tournament.

No surprises here! Luka Doncic earned his return after Slovenia's 88-67 win against Georgia. The Slovenian had the best efficiency today, thanks to 34 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists. He's now the fourth player to have consecutive World Cup games with 30+ points in the 21st century. Luis Scola, Kevin Durant and Larry Ayuso had been the only ones to do it before him.

A huge poster dunk, a no look assist, Kobe-like fadeaways and a clutch 3+1 play to force overtime. Unfortunately, a W for Jordan was the only thing missing from Rondae Hollis Jefferson's performance that ended in New Zealand overcoming Jordan's comeback with a 95-87 victory. The small forward almost clocked 44 minutes on the court and by the end of the game had 39 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. His 31.5 points per game only trail Luka Doncic (35.5) on the top scorers list.

New Zealand guard Izayah Le'afa was on the other end of that thriller and his role in the outcome is not to be underappreciated. The Le'afa jumpshooting experience began early on in the game and concluded with him nailing a 3-pointer to open up the first lead in overtime for the Kiwis. Turned out that they weren't about to give it away again. Le'afa closed out the game with 23 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists next to his name, with 4-of-8 shooting from deep being the most efficient part of his effort.

Last but not least, Ahmed Al-Dwairi signed up to be our frontcourt representative for the New Zealand and Jordan game. Other stars might have shone brighter, but efficiency was the name of the game for Al-Dwairi as he converted 9-of-12 field goal attempts and rounded it out with a good, old double-double of 19 points, 10 rebounds and also 3 assists. One of those dimes was a real beaut:

When Serbia jumped out to a quick 18-point lead in the first quarter against Puerto Rico, it was Nikola Milutinov who already had 8 rebounds. They closed out the game with a 94-77 win, with Milutinov collecting a sturdy double-double of 12 points, 15 rebounds, 3 assists and 6-of-11 shooting from the field. Add in a rare breakaway slam dunk by the center for some style points.

Enough of us. Who's your MVP of the day?
