First ever FIBA Asia Cup Trophy Tour set to embark from Lebanon to Indonesia

BEIRUT (Lebanon) - The grand prize of Asia and Oceania’s men’s flagship basketball competition, the FIBA Asia Cup, will be displayed in several countries over the next months leading up to the main event.

This will be the first-ever FIBA Asia Cup Trophy Tour and a unique opportunity for the fans to experience.

“We are extremely excited to launch the first-ever FIBA Asia Cup Trophy Tour. This will give fans the opportunity to see this prestigious trophy up close. It’s a money-can’t-buy experience,” said FIBA Regional Office - Asia Executive Director Hagop Khajirian.

The trophy is what the 16 teams will be competing for at FIBA Asia Cup 2022 in Jakarta, Indonesia, this year from July 12-24. Aside from host Indonesia, the teams vying for the FIBA Asia Cup are Bahrain, China, Chinese Taipei, India, Iran, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Lebanon, New Zealand, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Syria, and defending champions Australia.

The prestigious trophy will be making some stops along the way through different capital cities of these qualified national teams before it ends up in Jakarta, waiting for a champion to be crowned.

“The FIBA Asia Cup Trophy Tour is the start of what will be a fantastic summer of basketball celebrations in Jakarta this July. The trophy will embark on a journey that starts from Lebanon - host of 2017 FIBA Asia Cup - and finishes off in Indonesia, added Khajirian.
