Dunk Contest

The FIBA 3x3 All Stars Dunk Contest showcases the all-time rivalry between dunkers from Europe and the Americas. Two teams of two players will battle it out in Doha. Team Europe features 4-time FIBA 3x3 World Tour champ Rafal ‘Lipek’ Lipinski (Poland) and 2013 FIBA 3x3 All Stars Dunk Contest winner Kristaps Dargais (Latvia). Team Americas boasts the shortest professional dunker in the world Porter ‘What’s Gravity!?’ Maberry (USA) and 2015 FIBA 3x3 World Tour Mexico DF Masters Dunk Contest winner Justin ‘JusFly’ Darlington (Canada).

Format
The contest starts with a coin toss between the two captains. The winner decides which two dunkers (one from Europe and one from the Americas) will face off first. The other two dunkers will compete against one another in a second instance.

In these two match-ups, the format is the same: players have 75 seconds and 3 attempts per round to complete a dunk. There are 3 rounds. An attempt means the player had the intention to dunk and he or the ball touched the rim. The 75 seconds start running once the dunker's name is called up. The first successful dunk is considered the valid one. A dunk is considered successful if the ball does not bounce off the rim in an upward vertical direction after it has left the dunker's hand. The dunks are marked (0, 5-10) by each one of the 3 members of the jury after each dunk. A missed dunk is an automatic 0. If the dunker does not start racing to the basket before the time is up, he also gets an automatic 0. The match-ups can finish with a tie.

After the two match-ups, the team with the most wins prevails. If the two teams won one match-up or there were two ties, each team appoints one dunker who has 3 attempts and no time limit to perform one dunk. The jury does not give marks but instead gives a majority decision to name the winning team.
