Viteckova shows value of return to action for Czech Republic

TRUTNOV (FIBA World Championship for Women) - Veteran star Eva Viteckova is reminding everyone of the value of her decision to return to the court with the Czech Republic national team as she continues to impress in her nation's comprehensive preparation programme for the FIBA World Championship for Women next month.

Viteckova was at the heart of another crushing win for Czech Republic who completed a second victory in three days against fellow Turkey-bound participants Mozambique in Trutnov. Following on from a comprehensive win during the first meeting, Czech Republic racked up a 91-42 success to complete the double over their visitors.

Racing into a commanding first-quarter lead, Czech Republic didn't take their foot off the accelerator as Viteckova claimed a superb 20-point haul, which was underpinned by two young guns in the shape of Alena Hanusova and Tereza Vyoralova.

The duo will certainly be two of the rising stars to watch in Ankara, with impressive frontcourt talent Hanusova claiming 11 points and guard prospect Vyoralova also grabbing a double digit scoring return with 10 points.

There was also a satisfying 12 points for Katerina Hindrakova playing in her hometown and trying to cling on to her roster place, having debuted at EuroBasket Women 2013.

It had been a similar story in the initial match-up when the Czech team completed an 82-45 triumph - despite the best efforts of Leia Dongue and Deolinda Ngulela who shared 24 points in defeat.

Czech head coach Lubor Blazek was generally satisfied with his team's efforts, although also concerned at the physical nature of the games and how his players responded.

He stated: "For me it was positive that the defense was good (in the first game) and we tried to defend well in one-on-one situations - I want to get the players accustomed to being more responsible for this.

"On offense, there were a lot of catching hands and pushing, so we did have some problems.

"The results do not evaluate where we are at all. I was rather surprised about some of the moments when we lost touch with the game and perhaps allowed the hardness and toughness of our opponents to throw us off the pace.

"I am not complaining though and we have to play these games and make sure they are settled."

Meanwhile, Viteckova isn't the only notable veteran  returnee, with the team also trying to successfully integrate Jana Vesela back into the fold after a year out of action with an ACL injury sustained in the opening minutes of EuroBasket Women 2013.

The Czech Republic are now preparing to host the forthcoming Karlovy Vary tournament featuring Canada, Korea and Serbia.
