Marshall Islands Start 3x3 Competition with a Win

HONIARA (Solomon Islands) - The Pacific Games 3x3 Competition has tipped off in Honiara with 10 teams going for gold, including a determined Marshall Islands unit.

The Marshall Islands won a gritty match against the host nation, Solomon Islands, 14-13, earning them Team of the Day kudos on day one.

“We were honoured to open up with the home team, it was a good crowd, and it gets us going in our first competition, and gives us confidence going into the next game,” Jessica Olson from Marshall Islands said.

“This is the first time for us competing in a 3x3 tournament representing Marshall Islands, it’s challenging, but it’s a lot of fun.”

Defending champions, Fiji, started their 2023 Pacific Games 3x3 campaign with a convincing win over Samoa, 16-8, while Tahiti continued their dominate form at these games with an 21-9 win over Papua New Guinea as they once again chase down a spot on the podium.

New Caledonia  (NCL) won two from two on the opening day.  Their first game against Tonga was an arm wrestle, NCL prevailing 13-12.  Later on, they took care of business against Guam, 21-12.
