Iran, Indonesia set up Final clash with Semis wins

BANGKOK (Thailand) - FIBA Women's Asia Cup 2025 will have a debutant as Iran and Indonesia make it Final of Division B in Bangkok. Iran hand Jordan first loss to secure the first ticket to the Final and Indonesia followed suit by beating Thailand.

Meanwhile, Malaysia defeat Kazakhstan in the Classification Game for 5th place to close out their campaign on a high note.

Indonesia hold off host to make Final appearance

Hosts Thailand would not simply go away after trailing early on once again, but Indonesia were able to withstand the rally and win 65-57

Nathania Orville drilled a three-pointer while also getting fouled in what would be the key moment of the game at the 7:27 minute mark of the fourth quarter. She'd complete the four-point play, breaking a deadlock that saw the two teams go scoreless for the first two minutes of the final quarter.

The four-point play compounded a stretch of nearly 10 minutes where Thailand scored only two points from the end of the third quarter to halfway through the fourth quarter. Even though Thailand did make a spirited effort to get back into the game, it was too late to take the momentum away from Indonesia.

While Kim Pierre-Louis had her usual double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds, it was the spirited performance of lead guard Augustin Gradita Retong that willed Indonesia forward. The 27-year-old had 10 points, 5 rebounds, and 7 assists in the win.

Thailand's captain Amphawa Thuamon had 18 points to lead the hosts who will now head to a third-place game against Jordan.

Indonesia had come close to making it to the Final in 2021, but unfortunately lost to Lebanon who were eventually promoted to Division A. They now have the opportunity to do so themselves, given that they win the Final matchup against Iran.

Iran go from winless to Final-bound

In a clash between West Asian teams, Iran handed Jordan a 72-54 defeat, their first here in Bangkok.

The victory sealed Iran a trip to the Final, inching them closer to a FIBA Women's Asia Cup Division A debut. Iran were winless in 2021, their first appearance in the Women's Asia Cup since 1974, which makes this inspiring run to the Final all the more impressive.

In a physical game between both squads, Iran were able to maintain the form that got the team to the Semi-Finals which meant playing hard-nosed defense and distributing offense among the entire team.

Even though Jordan's Aisha Sheppard ended up with 24 points, it took her 18 attempts and had to earn most of her points from the free throw line.

Iran's leading scorer was Faezeh Shahriari, who knocked down 5 three-pointers to end up with 22 points. She has been one of Iran's top scorers in the competition, though her improvement is something that must be noted as the 28-year-old scored only 17 points through the entire competition in 2021.

Malaysia wrap up Division B campaign at 5th

After losing out to a late-game rally to Thailand, Malaysia recover to beat Kazakhstan, 62-44, and secure 5th place in the Final Standings.

They had no issues whatsoever, leading in 38 minutes of the game and never let Kazakhstan get the lead.

Three players scored in double-digits for Malaysia, led by Fook Yee Yap who had 16 points. Up-and-coming guard Sin Jie Tan had her best game of the competition with 15 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists.

Tamara Yagodkina had 18 points and 8 rebounds for Kazakhstan.
