Japan steady in convincing win over Korea

BENGALURU (FIBA Women's Asia Cup 2017) - Things were tight early in this game, but Japan opened the floodgates in the second quarter and never looked back in their convincing win over Korea, 70-56.

The Akatsuki Five trailed 14-12 after the first period, but they outscored Korea, 26-7, in the second stanza to break the game open and hold a commanding 17-point lead at the break.

Manami Fujioka was all sorts of awesome in this contest, scoring 14 points on top of 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals as the Japanese notched their second win in a row. Moeko Nagaoka and Maki Takada also impressed with a combined 23 points in support.

As for Korea, they just could not keep up when Japan turned up the jets in the second quarter. Kwak Joo Yeong and Lim Yung Hui each tallied 12 points to lead Korea, while ace Kim DanBi failed to score in double-figures for the second straight game.

Japan will close out group play tomorrow opposite powerhouse Australia, who are also unbeaten. The winner in that bout will be the top-seeded team in Group B, while Korea take on similarly winless Philippines to close out their group play.
