Georges-Hunt, Kuwait Club out to win yet another 'first'

DUBAI (United Arab Emirates) - Marcus Georges-Hunt and this present-day Kuwait Club sure knows a thing or two about breakthroughs.

Back in August of last year, they gave the club its first-ever Arab club championship by sweeping the tournament. Just last May saw them become the inaugural FIBA West Asia Super League-Gulf (WASL-Gulf) titlists, doing so in unbeaten fashion as well (10-0).

Now, they would want to become the first-ever WASL kings.

"This right here would be special," said Georges-Hunt.

Kuwait Club could do just that. They reached the Final 8 championship round after taking down WASL-West Asia winners Al Riyadi in the Semi-Finals, 95-85, Friday night at the Sheikh Saeed Bin Maktoum Sports Hall.

The 29-year-old himself was on the forefront of the triumph, firing a game-high 32 points - spiked by 4 triples - alongside 4 rebounds and 4 assists in yet another proof why he's one of the teams' most reliable closers.

In retrospect, he was a major reason why they won the Gulf League. In Game 2, Georges-Hunt submitted 35 big points on 71.4-percent shooting, together with 6 boards and 7 dimes in their 95-85 win to finish the best-of-3 series.

"It's a challenge for me," he said regarding those performances in playoff clinchers. "I take it as a challenge. My teammates put me in a position to score. In those types of games, we're just a lot more aggressive per se."

"I just execute the game plan that Coach draws up and we just come out successfully," the Georgia Tech product added,

Saturday night's battle for the crown is a winner-take-all duel and Georges-Hunt, surely, is keen on turning another exceptional showing to help Kuwait Club realize their dream of becoming the inaugural WASL champs.

But it's not lost on him that doing so won't be a walk in the park. They will be up against a familiar foe in Manama, the team they beat in the WASL-Gulf Final.

Georges-Hunt is wary since they'll be taking on a 'totally different team,' he believes, with the addition of NBA and Europe vet Jeremy Evans and Sir'Dominic Pointer - two key signings after the Bahraini side parted ways with Lamont 'Momo' Jones and Elijah Robinson.

Evans and Pointer both played key roles in Manama's 91-81 Semis victory over BC Astana also on Friday night to help their team become the first to reach the Final.

"They've gotten better defensively," Georges-Hunt said. "They're like a totally different team right now. They still have great shooting from the outside. More length."

So, it's all on them to prepare the best they could in an attempt to hurdle one final test that stands in their way towards glory, he said.

"Job's not finished," said Georges-Hunt.
