Brazil flying high ahead of Group B opener with Lithuania

MOGI DAS CRUZES (Rio 2016 Olympic Games) - If winning breeds confidence, there won't be a shortage of self-belief in the Brazil team following victories over Australia, Lithuania and China in their final warm-up games for the Olympics.

With the triumphs, the last on Tuesday night - an 83-69 victory over the Chinese - Ruben Magnano's side improved to 6-0 in the build-up to Rio.

"I like to always win and finish the preparation very well, with six games and six wins," Magnano said.

The most encouraging result may have been Sunday's 64-62 victory over Lithuania, the team that finished runners-up to Spain at EuroBasket 2015.

"The victories were important for the team, for our self esteem, especially against Lithuania, which is our first (Group B) opponent on Sunday," Magnano said.

The game against the Baltic side afforded Brazil's Rafael Hettsheimeir the opportunity to go up against his former teammates at Unicaja Malaga, Domas Sabonis and Mindaugas Kuzminskas.

Brazil will also take on Argentina, Spain, Nigeria and Croatia in pool play at the Olympics.

Chicago Bulls big man Cristiano Felicio appears to be fitting in well since joining Brazil last week as a replacement for Anderson Varejao. Golden State Warriors center Varejao had to withdraw from the team with a back injury.

"I'm feeling good," Felicio said. "What I need going forward is to acquire knowledge of the team, but it won't be hard because I've soaked up a lot already. I'm very happy to be with the team, being with friends and I hope to contribute to a good campaign in the Olympics."
