Turkey save it for late, pull away from China
HERAKLION (2015 FIBA U19 World Championship) - Turkey topped Group B of the 2015 FIBA U19 World Championship with a 3-0 record after running away late from China for a 62-51 victory. China, who led 12-0 early on, wasted an 18-point, 13-rebound, two-block performance from Hu Jinqiu.
Turning Point: After Hu evened the score at 51-51 with four minutes left, Egemen Guven put back two offensive rebounds to spark the game winning 11-0 run.
Stats Don't Lie: Turkey out-rebounded China 48-35 and got 36 points in the paint compared to 20 for China. The Turkish bench out-scored the Chinese reserves 36-20.
Game Hero: Ege Arar collected 11 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks for the Turks, including a tip-in and dunk in the final spurt.
The Bottom Line: Turkey showed they can take an early punch and fight back into a game and then close strong. China once again failed to close off a European team in dropping to 1-2 after having seen Spain streak away late.
