Russian ace Vadeeva ready to step out at U19 Women's Worlds

BUDAPEST (EuroBasket Women 2015/2015 FIBA U19 Women's World Championship) - After lighting it up at EuroBasket Women 2015 with some sensational displays, Maria Vadeeva is set to propel Russia on home soil at the FIBA U19 Women's World Championship.

After Russia had fallen short of achieving the fifth-place finish they craved, senior women's tema head coach Anatoliy Myshkin revealed that the center would be stepping out in Chekhov and Vidnoe.

The 16-year-old departs Budapest having cause a stir on her major tournament debut.

Vadeeva average 12 points and 6 rebounds per game as well as shooting the ball better than anyone else on the entire Russia roster.

After being squeezed out in the race to reach the 2016 FIBA Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament (WOQT), Vadeeva said: "While we didn't manage to win and we didn't manage to achieve our goal, it is not the end - only the beginning."

It referenced the fact that Russia have a glut of burgeoning young talent, with the player just one of many that could help restore the powerhouse back to medal challengers on the senior global stage in the next 10-15 years.

I agree with Maria that it is not the end for us and it is the beginning of new a generation of Russian basketball, which I am sure will have a good future. - Myshkin

"It is not as bad as it seems. It is a pity that we will miss the Olympics in Rio, but I believe in the team and its future," Myshkin said.

"We will see that soon at the FIBA U19 Women's World Championship where Maria will play."

It means the already stacked Russian frontcourt could well be the most the most potent in the competition and some may even feel the most powerful in the history of the tournament.

Vadeeva will link up with Tatiana Sema and Zhosselina Maiga, who wreaked havoc at last year's U18 European Championship Women.

And her club team-mate Raisa Musina was the standout player at the recent Reze International Tournament, meaning they are going to have a seriously high quality rotation in the paint.

Vadeeva and Musina are products of the esteemed Sparta&K M.R. Vidnoje youth system which dominates the roster and will also witness Kseniia Levchenko pulling the strings from the point guard spot and last year's U18 European Championship Women MVP Daria Kolosovskaia posing a major threat on the wing.

Russia will face Argentina, Netherlands and Chinese Taipei in Group A.
