Lyttle fired up at prospect of Istanbul

ANKARA (FIBA World Championship for Women) - Spain forward Sancho Lyttle can’t wait to step out for the Quarter-Finals of the FIBA World Championship for Women in Istanbul.

The EuroBasket Women 2013 MVP will return to the city for the first time since rounding off a glorious club season with Galatasaray odeabank which delivered the Turkish Championship for the first time in over a decade, as well as a historic maiden EuroLeague Women title.

It will be wonderful for the fans of Galatasaray to see me play for Spain in Istanbul and it is also very special for me too. - Lyttle

"It is going to be fun and hopefully we won't have to play against Turkey, as I know in that kind of situation they definitely won't be supporting me or Alba (Torrens) - that's for sure," said the 1.93m forward who has re-signed with the club for the 2014-15 campaign.

"This is exactly what we wanted and it was important the first part of the task has been completed.

Lyttle has certainly reiterated her importance to the Spanish challenge with a number of superb displays so far.

"We knew that it was necessary to reach this critical stage if we are to play for the podium."

The veteran signed off her participation in Ankara's Group Phase by producing a classy double-double of 17 points and 14 rebounds in the 67-43 win over the Czech Republic.

The Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB) handed the 31-year-old extended rest after the end of her WNBA season and it looks to have made the difference in making sure Lyttle is as fresh as possible.

"It most certainly has helped - I really needed it," Lyttle laughed.

Spain will now enjoy a further two days of rest before resuming their tournament on Friday.
