Korea trim preliminary list for Changsha 2015

SEOUL (2015 FIBA Asia Championship) - Korea coach Kim Dong-Kwang has announced the 16-man list of players that is to attend the national team training camp and start preparing for the FIBA Asia Championship.

Among those to get the nod is Han Huiwon, who shone at the World University Games that were just held in Gwangju.

The Kyung-Hee University student athlete, who stands 1.95m in height, was particularly impressive in Korea's 70-68 victory over Montenegro when he poured in 13 points and an 84-75 triumph over Sweden when he drilled four three-balls and finished with 15 points.

The diminutive FIBA Basketball World Cup point guard Yang Donggeun, who did very well for Korea in their Asia Games triumph last year in Incheon, is in the 16, as well as two other players to have featured at Spain 2014, Cho Sungmin and Oh Sekeun.

Korea did not win a game at the World Cup but they did have some bright moments.

I’ve been dreaming to finally make the national team for a long time and this is a chance to help the country make the Olympics. - Taeyoung

Moon Taeyoung is the naturalized player, replacing brother Moon Taejong.

Korea will play at the FIBA Asia Championship in Changsha, China, from 23 September to 3 October and will be in Group C with Jordan, Singapore and China.

The winner of the competition will clinch a spot in the Rio de Janeiro Games and the teams that finish second and third will qualify for the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament (OQT).

Korea preliminary squad for FIBA Asia Championship: Park Chanhee, Yang Donggeun, Yang Heejong, Yoon Hoyoung, Han Huiwon, Lee Jonghyun, Kim Jongkyu, Choi Junyoung, Moon Seonggon, Lee Seunghyun, Oh Sekeun, Ha Seungjin, Kim Sunghyung, Cho Sungmin, Kim Taesol and Moon Taeyoung.
