Japan thump Chinese Taipei

TOKYO (2015 FIBA Asia Women's Championship) - Japan are hardly putting a foot wrong in the build-up to the FIBA Asia Women's Championship.

After winning the third game of their friendly series against Australia and then sweeping New Zealand in three games, Tomohide Utsumi's team has returned home and blown out Chinese Taipei.

The sides squared off at the Chiba Port Arena on Thursday night and Japan rolled to a 92-52 triumph.

A squad with numerous threats from long range, the player that had the hot hand against Chinese Taipei was Mika Kurihara.

The 1.76m shooting guard drilled five three-pointers on her way to 17 points.

The game was effectively over by half-time when Japan had a 52-21 lead.

Kurihara didn't play for the Japan team that won the 2013 FIBA Asia Championship but she did feature last year when Utsumi's side played at the FIBA Women's World Championship in Turkey.

Wu Ying-chieh had 10 points for Chinese Taipei.

The two squads will square off again in friendly games at the Yoyogi National Gymnasium Annex on Saturday and Sunday.
