FIBA Asia Championship hopefuls in Korea's University Games squad

SEOUL (2015 FIBA Asia Championship) - Kim Jongkyu and Lee Jonghyun of Korea are going to have a nice tune-up for the 2015 FIBA Asia Championship.

Before heading to Changsha-Hunan, China, the two are expected to be in their country's squad for the World University Games that tips off on 3 July in Gwangju, Korea.

Both are in Korea's 19-man preliminary squad for that tournament.

Kim and Lee both played big minutes at the FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain last year.

The former, a 2.07m center, made his presence felt at both ends of the court and especially on defense.

He finished with 10 blocks in five games and had three apiece against Angola, Australia and Mexico.

Lee also made headlines at the World Cup.

He led the entire competition with an average of 2.6 blocks per game.

Lee recently declared for the NBA Draft.

The two have already got several tournaments with the senior team under their belts.

They each played for Korea's team that hosted and won the Asian Games in Incheon last year.

Kim plays for LG Sakers and helped them reach the Semi-Finals of the KBL playoffs, where eventual champions Mobis Phoebus defeated them in a Game 5 decider.

He is among several players in the World University Games squad that are already playing for clubs in the KBL.

Another is Lee Seounghyun of Goyang Orions, who led the Koreans in scoring at 15.8ppg at the 2011 FIBA U19 World Championship

Heo Ung of Wonju Dongbu Prom, Kim Junyl of Samsung Thunder, Lee Jaedo of Busan Sonicboom KT and Jeong Hyeogeun of Incheon ET Land Elephants are also players with club sides that have a chance to make the University Games roster.

Junyl and Lee Seounghyun were named Co-Rookies of the Year in the KBL this past season.

In addition to Lee Jonghyun, others competing for their respective universities this past season were Moon Seonggon, Kang Sangjae, Lee Dongyeop (all Korea University), Choi Joonyoung, Cheon Kibum, An Youngjun (all Yonsei University), Choi Changjin, Han Heewon (both Kyung-Hee University), Kim Donghee (Chosun University), Han Sanghyeok (Hanyang University), Yoo Younghwan (Konkuk University) and Lee Daehyun (Dongguk University).
