Cameroon begin preparations for AfroBasket Women 2015

YAOUNDE (AfroBasket Women 2015) - Cameroon on Monday opened their training camp ahead of AfroBasket Women 2015, which will take place in the country's capital of Yaounde from 24 September-3 October.

The hosts of Africa's biggest women's basketball tournament called up 20 players, including veterans such as Amina Njounkou, Ramses LonlackPriscilla Mbiandja, Siloise Gano Jiogap, Mary Kevine Tsoungui and Nicole Jamen Senken, who have all featured for Cameroon at the last two editions of AfroBasket Women.

Following the team's fourth-place finish at AfroBasket Women 2013, the Cameroonian Basketball Federation decided to introduce new blood into the team as they look to claim the first trophy in their history.

In Maputo two years ago, Lonlack and her teammates fell short of reaching the Final after a heartbreaking a 61-57 loss in their Semi-Final against host nation Mozambique.

They then suffered an equally devastating defeat at the hands of Senegal in the Third-Place Game.

The AfroBasket Women 2013 campaign left a bitter taste in the mouths of the players, who are now intent on achieving a measure of revenge this year, on home soil.

Cameroon have been drawn in Group A alongside Mozambique, South Africa, Gabon, Uganda and Mali.

AfroBasket Women 2015 will serve as a qualifier for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. The winner of the tournament will secure automatic qualification, while the teams that finish second and third will book places to participate in 12-team FIBA Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament (WOQT).
