Palau Backed by Experience

NGERULMUD (Palau) – Micronesian Games veterans, Rudimch, Ngiralmau, Timarong and Worswick return for Palau National Men’s Team ahead of the FIBA Micronesia Cup 2022.

Head Coach, Logan Ngirou said that with limited game time over the last two years, the team will be leaning on experienced players to build their FIBA Micronesian Cup 2022 campaign.

“I believe that all players grow with experience, so we will be counting on our four experienced players to mentor new players throughout the tournament,” Ngirou said.  “We know that anything is possible and that we will get better by playing stronger teams, it will be a great experience for our younger players.”

With five new recruits joining the ranks, Palau will need to learn fast with their last regional tournament in 2018 at the Micronesian Games.  Palau finished fourth at the Games, going down to Pohnpei in the bronze medal match by six points.

“Our last national game was four years ago, we have been working as hard as we can in our country on and off the court,” Ngirou said.  “We are working on offence, defence and educating our new players.  Half of our team is new; we will be doing our best to get the team in-sync.  Most of all we just want to get on court and do our best.”

With a host of new players taking the court, Coach Ngirou said he expects Timarong and Worswick to be players to watch after they both performed amicably at the 2018 Micronesian Games.
