Micronesia Men's Team Open-Minded Approach

MANGILAO (Guam) – With travel restrictions hampering the Men’s Micronesia (FSM) Team, they will rely on players who live in Guam to compete for the FIBA Micronesian Cup 2022.

FSM Basketball Federation President, Castro Joab, said that while both the men’s and women’s teams face significant challenges, they are approaching the tournament with open minds and with the mindset to enjoy playing basketball against the best in the region.

“Our preparation stages have been a challenge with obstacles, such as finding venues to practice,” Joab said.  “We have been fortunate enough through the kind hearts of the Honourable Loreto V. Leones, Vice Mayor of Yigo and the Honourable Bill A. Quenga, Mayor of Yona for accommodating our training requirements with support from the University of Guam.”

The FSM Men’s Team have adapted to their hybrid training schedule with coaching staff and players happy to be back on court with the opportunity to play in the FIBA Micronesian Cup 2022.

“We are incredibly thankful to a lot of people for supporting us at the tournament and I think our team will surprise a few people on court when the time comes in June,” Joab said.  “We are a new team, but they will not disappoint when we take the court for our first game against Palau.  The team to beat will be the Guam Men’s Team and we look forward to that challenge.”
