Cabrera: "We are on the right track and that gives us a lot of confidence"

MONTEVIDEO (DIRECTV Liga de las Americas) - The 2016-2017 season of the Uruguayan National League brought Aguada de Montevideo a new reality and good news. Aguada is currently fighting for the top positions in the standings and is becoming a serious contender for the title.

And the team known for its incredible fans ended the year with a great joy after receiving an invitation to participate in the 2017 edition of the DIRECTV Liga de las Americas.

The imminent return to the continental league, after their participation in the 2014 Final Four, is lived with enthusiasm, without losing sight of the reality of Uruguayan basketball.

Coach Fernando Cabrera made an analysis of the team's reality, the goals set and the aspects that need to be highlighted to qualify to the next stage of the competition.

-How will Aguada face this international commitment of the Liga de las Americas? What objectives were set for the team?
-For both the club and the squad is a reason for pride and happiness, as being invited to participate in the most important club tournament of the continent, is not only a distinction, but a recognition of the work that is done.

-What does Aguada have today that will make the team a possible contender in the LDA? Is the team going to add reinforcement players or a third foreigner?
-The idea is to add at least two more reinforcement players, a foreigner and a national player, that have a high level and that will fit within the profile of the group and our style of play, so that our identity is not affected. Adding new reinforcement players is not an easy task because of the phase being played in the National League. It is very important for us that the reinforcements give us a jump of quality and that they stretch the team in a competition where that a necessity. We know what international basketball is and we know it will not be easy for us. We hope to make Aguada a difficult opponent for the other teams. How we arrive to the first game will be fundamental. We are on the right track and that gives us a lot of confidence.

-What do you think of Aguada’s qualifying group, along with Soles de Mexicali (MEX), Unión de Formosa (ARG) and Correcaminos de Colón (PAN)?
-It is an extremely difficult group, in which to qualify to the next phase we will have a small margin of error, but we are very confident that our work will allow us to be competitive. And from there, why not dream of a qualification to the next phase.
