5 stats lines from Day 2 of Group A

MEXICALI (DIRECTV Liga de las Americas) – The second game day of the DIRECTV Liga de las Americas handed well-fought victories to Union de Formosa (ARG) over Correcaminos Colon (PAN) and to Aguada (URU) over Soles de Mexicali (MEX), in an instant overtime classic.

Here are the 5 stats lines to take away from Day 2:

  • Iglesias’ defining moment: With 18 seconds to go, and as Aguada was winning the game 110-108, Gonzalo Iglesias scored a three pointer from the rcorner and sentenced the game in favor of the Uruguayan team. That game-defining shot was Iglesias first shot of the tournament.

 

  • Francis shows-off against Correcaminos: Torin Francis added its second “double-double” of the tournament after scoring 15 points and capturing 16 rebounds in Union’s 84-77 victory over Correcaminos. Francis is now averaging a “double-double” in the competition.

  • Sensational Smith: After scoring 10 points in the opener of Group A, Jeremis Smith kicked it up a notch with an amazing and sensational performance against Soles de Mexicali. Smith scored 41 points and captured 8 rebounds in the over-time win over the host.

  • Barrera’s world-class passing: Gustavo Barrera was a decisive factor in Aguada’s victory, as his 9 assist balanced the offense of the Uruguayan team. Barrera averages 8.5 assist per game.

  • Vargas shows his value: Jose Vargas was a leading force for Union de Formosa and showed his value to the team after accumulating 18 points in the victory over Correcaminos Colon.
