5 stats lines from Day 1

MEXICALI (DIRECTV Liga de las Américas) – Last night the 2017 season of the 2017 de la DIRECTV Liga de las Américas opened with victories for La Unión de Formosa, Argentina and the host Soles de Mexicali, Mexico.

Here are the 5 stats lines to take away from Day 1:

  • La Unión in control: A three-pointer from Facundo Piñero gave an 8-5 lead to the Argentinean club over Aguada from Montevideo with 7:15 to play in the first quarter. La Union led the rest of the way.

  • Effective veteran: Experienced La Unión point guard (and 2009 FIBA Americas Champion with the Argentina National Team), Diego Garcia scored 11 points, with 3 three-pointers in the win. 

  • 19-0: Soles de Mexicali had a 10-0 run in the second and a 9-0 run in the third on their way to a victory over Correcaminos de Colón.  

  • Pery vs. Correcaminos: Soles de Mexicali point guard, Pedro “Pery” Meza, dished 13 assists in the win against only 6 assists for the whole Correcaminos team. 

  • The Champ is here: Nigerian Chamberlain "Champ" Oguchi scored 32 points, 6 three-pointers, with 6 rebounds and 63.2% from the floor in the Soles de Mexicali win.
