Hosts Hungary get rolling as Dombai shines, Czech Republic stuns France

SOPRON (Hungary) - There was a cocktail of celebratory relief for host nation Hungary at the FIBA U20 Women's European Championship after they picked up their first win of the competition on the second day of action.

Bouncing back from a loss to Czech Republic in Friday's opener, they rallied to produce a convincing 81-40 win against Netherlands as Reka Dombai erupted for 29 points.

Czech Republic beat Hungary on day one and stayed unbeaten with a terrific and hard fought 59-54 win against France, as their defense suffocated their opponents. Julia Vydrova was the standout with 11 points and 11 rebounds. 

Matilda Eka was a class act on day two for Sweden

In Group B, Sweden were too strong and rode their way past Belgium 81-61, with Matilda Ekh showing her senior team experience to record a fantastic 19 points and 11 rebounds.

Meanwhile Italy look like the team to beat in the pool after they scored the first 16 points of the contest against Finland to win 67-38 with Caterina Gilli claiming 10 points.

Spain were dominant for the second day in a row

Spain and Poland are both perfect in Group C, with the former racking up another power-packed display, this time taking down Bulgaria 98-27.

With a staggering 33 steals and their opponents turning the ball over 43 times, it was one way traffic as Txell Alarcon top scored with 13 point. Meanwhile Poland blasted past Lithuania 66-34, led by 16 points from Magdalena Szymkiewicz.

Serbia had to sweat it out in their narrow 81-76 Group D triumph against Ireland, with 20 points from Mona Zaric helping them get the job done. Portugal moved to a perfect two wins in two days after overwhelming Latvia 74-45 as Ana Barreto starred with 25 points.
