Slovenia make history with Semi-Finals place on dramatic day 5

MATOSINHOS (FIBA U20 Women's European Championship 2017) - There was history made at the FIBA U20 Women's European Championship 2017 in Matosinhos, as Slovenia reached the Semi-Finals for the very first time.

In what is turning out to be a landmark year for Slovenian women's basketball in the wake of the senior team appearing at their first-ever FIBA EuroBasket Women Final Round recently, there has been another exciting chapter written. They came back from a 15-point deficit to beat Latvia 64-61 as Zala Friskovic scored 19 points.

France also continued their good run with a powerful showing against the previously unbeaten Italy. They prevailed 77-61 as Ornella Bankole produced a super 24 points and 13 rebounds.

Spain are chasing down a sixth title in seven editions and are now just two steps away from completing the feat. Maria Araujo made some noise with 21 points and 11 rebounds as the holders moved past Hungary 67-53.

Russia bagged the last Semi-Finals berth by fending off Belgium 56-49.

There was also a sense of palpable relief for Sweden, Serbia, Poland and Portugal as they all took the wins they needed to guarantee a place in Division A for 2018. That leaves Turkey, Netherlands, Lithuania and Bosnia and Herzegovina to fight it out for the last remaining ticket for the top flight next year.
