Perfect Day saves Nantes, headlines Team of the Week

MUNICH (EuroCup Women) – Ranked 23rd after the Regular Season, Nantes Reze sprung one of the biggest surprises in Play-Off Round 1 by taking down 10th seed Energa Torun over the home-and-away series.

The French side took a seven-point advantage to Poland, but had to sweat it out down the stretch, with Torun starting a late comeback to claim an 81-77 win. It was too little, too late, as Nantes squeezed into the Round of 8 with an aggregate score of 163-160.

Briana Day was in a league of her own, as she dominated the boards with a 24-point, 22-rebound double-double and added 2 assists and 2 blocks to amass an efficiency rating of 46 and earn Top Performer honors.

Clarissa Dos Santos came the closest with an efficiency of 35, leading competition newcomers Lyon ASVEL Feminin to a comfortable 82-52 win over Sparta&K M.R. Vidnoje and into the next round. The Brazilian ended her day at the office with 27 points, 14 rebounds and 2 blocks.

Reyer Venezia took care of business in similarly convincing fashion, completing the double over Basket Landes with a 78-58 success at home. Jolene Anderson paced a balanced offense with 17 points on 8-of-10 shooting, 7 rebounds and 5 assists.

She is joined in the backcourt by MBK Ruzomberok's Janeesa Jeffery, who had reason to smile despite a 72-74 loss at WBC Enisey, as her side still advanced thanks to a six-point win in the first leg. The 27-year-old chipped in with 19 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists.

On the other end, Enisey forward Stephanie Mavunga bid farewell to the competition with another stellar display and her fifth Team of the Week appearance. Leading the competition in the efficiency category, Mavunga capped off her campaign with a  34 rating on Thursday after posting 23 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals and 4 blocks.
