Preparation key for Saint-Amand on EuroCup Women return

SAINT-AMAND-LES-EAUX (EuroCup Women) – As the curtain is raised on the 2017-18 EuroCup Women Qualifiers, ambitious French side Saint-Amand will be out to build on an impressive pre-season.

They will have the honor of hosting the first game of the new campaign in the first leg of their tie against Amsterdam Angels as they complete their return to the tournament.

It will be a special night for Saint-Amand Hainaut Basket as they revive their European club participation after a four-year absence. Their last season started with four consecutive wins and they lost only once on their home floor, something that will be remembered by the ever-reliable Laura Garcia, who is the lone survivor from that lineup.

They will be favorites against the Angels – even if their opponents played last year and bring most recent experience. That is mainly due to the fact that Saint-Amand stunned EuroLeague Women side ESBVA-LM last weekend with a superb 61-59 derby success.

Their main threats will come from the powerful Ashley Bruner, who knows this competition well, Lithuanian veteran Egle Sulciute and Slovak Republic small forward, Katerina Tetemondova who is a big three-point threat on any night.

As for Amsterdam, they will be looking to an array of Netherlands national team talents from both the senior and youth ranks, including the likes of Tanya Broring, Laura Westerik, Britt Zapelj, while American Kayla Bernsen is also expected to feature.

The second leg will take place on Wednesday, September 27 in Amsterdam.
