Doncic casts 'Luka Magic' spell on helpless Hungary

COLOGNE (Germany) - Slovenia took no prisoners and made quick work of Hungary with a comprehensive 103-88 victory thanks to a magical showing by Luka Doncic.

The large crowd rained down chants of "MVP! MVP!" to Doncic, and the reigning champions showed they are just a class better than Hungary and moved to 2-0 in Group B of the FIBA EuroBasket 2022.

Turning Point:
Slovenia did not wait around and took control of the game from the opening tip with an 18-2 start thanks to four three-pointers. Hungary answered with three triples to pull within seven points but never threatened the rest of the way.

TCL Player of the Game: Doncic played with plenty of flash as the maestro flirted with a triple-double in picking up 20 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists in just 19 minutes. He also wowed himself at times - including when he drained three straight three-pointers in the third quarter.

Stats Don't Lie: Slovenia dominated the glass 48-35 while hitting 16 three-pointers. In addition, Hungary shot 46 percent for the game, including 47 percent on two-pointers.

Bottom Line: Slovenia have taken care of business with two wins in two games and will look to grab a third on Sunday against fellow Balkan side Bosnia and Herzegovina, who are 1-1. Hungary have their work cut out for them at 0-2 and next take on France.

They Said:  "We wanted to set the tempo of the game and we did. So we stuck to it throughout the whole game. In this kind of games you don't want to get hurt. Of course we did get two guys hurt. But it was also a good game for a lot of guys to get a rhythm going." - Vlatko Cancar, Slovenia

"We took a lead very early in the game, then we controlled the game mainly and the victory is the most important thing. But at the same time, Luka (Doncic) and Mike (Tobey) didn't play so many minutes."- Aleksej Nikolic, Slovenia

"They got a lot of offensive firepower and they came out swinging, and you can't give a team like that easy open looks. And that's what we continue to do, and they knocked down a lot of shots. Luckily, we was able to put some points on the board, but at the same time we gotta be better defensively." - Mickael Hopkins, Hungary
