Barbados, Uruguay, Dominican Republic dominated FIBA Esports Open III in Americas region

MIAMI (USA) - The FIBA Esports Open III ended on Sunday after hosting a tournament of 60 National Federations around the world. Barbados, Uruguay, and Dominican Republic came out on top of their respective conferences after competing amongst 15 National Federations in the Americas region.

The North and Central American Current Gen conference featured Barbados, Costa Rica, Honduras, and Mexico. The teams played each other in group phase which led to Barbados and Costa Rica meeting in the Grand Final. Barbados defeated Costa Rica and became the winner of the conference on their first FIBA Esports Open participation.

The South American Conference Current Gen (PS4) hosted Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Uruguay, and Venezuela. The conference was divided in two groups, the top two of each group qualified to the Semi-Finals. Uruguay won Group A after beating Argentina, which came in second place. In Group B Brazil defeated Chile, who qualified to the semifinals in their FIBA Esports debut.

Uruguay met Brazil in the Grand Final and split the first two games. In a winner-take-all third game, Brazil held the lead until the fourth quarter when Uruguay came back to take home the victory. This was their first conference win in their second FIBA Esports Open participation.

The North and Central America Conference (Next Gen) was the only Americas conference to be played on PS5, with Next Gen consoles making a FIBA Esports debut. The conference featured Canada, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and USA. USA went undefeated in group phase. Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic battled it out for the second finalist spot in a game that went to triple overtime. The Dominican team won and headed to the Grand Final. Their momentum didn't stop there as the Dominican Republic surprised the USA and won the first game. USA took the second game after a few offensive adjustments. In game three, the Dominican Republic held on to a three-point lead to defeat the USA powerhouse and crown themselves conference champions.
