Colome, Jones, Stinson shine in second day of Centrobasket in El Salvador

SAN SALVADOR (El Salvador) - New faces emerged during the second day of games of the 2021 Centrobasket Women’s Championship. These are the top three players from Thursday’s slate of games:

Taylor Dominique Jones (ISV)

After Anisha Briana George’s 30 point and 15 rebound double-double, all eyes were on the paint to see what she could do against Costa Rica. However, Taylor Dominique Jones led the attack for the U.S. Virgin Islands in their 30-point win over Costa Rica. Not only did she put up 25 points on 64 percent shooting, but she also was all over the offensive boards and allowed her team to have a number of second chance opportunities. Despite being a 5’8 guard, she grabbed seven rebounds. She was either knocking down jumpers from beyond the arc or driving hard to the basket and drawing the foul. Overall, Dominique Jones put up a great performance.

Elemy Caridad Colome (DOM)

It was a disappointing loss for the Dominican Republic, but there were a few bright spots including Elemy Caridad Colome’s performance. She helped the Dominican Republic climb back from a 14-point lead against Puerto Rico, coming up just short in the fourth quarter. Colome shot 6 for 10 from three-point line, which was pertinent in getting the Dominican Republic going on the offensive side of the ball. She finished her night with 25 points on 50 percent shooting.

Jada Shanice Stinson (PUR)

While point guard Pamela Rosado served as the facilitator for Puerto Rico’s offense, she was often dishing it to Jada Shanice Stinson. It was a great night for the 21-year-old as she shot 53 percent from the field and contributed 25 points. Stinson had nine points alone in the first quarter. She was a huge spark in Puerto Rico’s offense and hit shots in key moments, especially when the Dominican Republic was cutting into their lead early into the fourth quarter. Stinson answered late into the game, knocking down her free throws and 3-pointers, helping to solidify Puerto Rico’s second straight victory.
