Stars returning to their National Teams for Window 4

MIAMI (United States) – Window 4 of the 2023 FIBA World Cup Americas Qualifiers is set to be crucial for all teams as it marks the beginning of the Second Round, where everyone needs to pile up wins.

Understanding what’s at stake, several National Teams were able to add many of their stars that hadn’t been available in Qualifiers up until this point. Let’s look those significant reinforcements that will suit up this time around:

Small Forward/Power Forward
Age: 27 years old
Height: 202 cm / 6'8"

Luis Scola is irreplaceable, but since his retirement Argentina has been trying to fill that void. The player that is most likely to pick up some of the slack is Deck, who despite not being a natural power forward, has the capacity to play there thanks to his size and intensity. The 27-year-old will help Argentina on the boards and give the team a second offensive weapon behind Facundo Campazzo. After a brief stint in the NBA, Deck returned to Real Madrid where he averaged 10.1 points and 4.8 rebounds in the Spanish ACB league.

Argentina will also get back another player who hasn’t donned the jersey since the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and that’s point guard Nicolás Laprovíttola, a lethal scorer who will also provide steady playmaking. The Barcelona star averaged 9.3 points and 2.5 assists during the past season.

Didi Louzada – Brazil

Shooting Guard/Small Forward
Age: 23 years old
Height: 195 cm / 6'5"

The 23-year-old guard/forward arrives to strengthen Brazil’s perimeter attack. Thanks to his athletic skills, he has the ability to be a difference-maker on both ends of the floor. He hasn’t played for the National Team since the 2019 FIBA World Cup in China and is now a much more mature player after a couple of seasons in Australia and another pair in the NBA with the New Orleans Pelicans and Portland Trail Blazers. He’s expected to play a big role in the upcoming matchups.

Cory Joseph – Canada

Point Guard
Age: 30 years old
Height: 193 cm / 6'4"

The 11-year NBA veteran has been a constant presence for the Canadian team but hasn’t yet been able to play in these Qualifiers. He’s now on Nick Nurse’s preliminary 15-man roster for Window 4. Joseph is a steady floor general and well-known for his speed attacking the basket. The last time he played for Canada was at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Qualifiers, where the Canadians were the host country in Victoria. At the NBA level, he’s coming off a season where he averaged 8.0 points and 3.6 assists in 65 games with the Detroit Pistons.

Juan Toscano-Anderson – Mexico

Small Forward/Power Forward
Age: 29 years old
Height: 198 cm / 6'6"

The reigning NBA champion with the Golden State Warriors will bring his talents to the Mexican team. He’s a solid perimeter defender and an explosive force on the opposite basket -- with a respectable outside shot to boot. His presence will lengthen Omar Quintero’s squad. Toscano, who will suit up for the Los Angeles Lakers next season, hasn’t played for Mexico since the 2019 FIBA World Cup Americas Qualifiers, where he averaged 9.8 points and 5.4 rebounds across eight games.
