What teams need to do to join South Sudan and Cote d'Ivoire in the second round

ABIDJAN/ALEXANDRIA/KIGALI - Two teams on Friday secured their places in the Second Round of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 African Qualifiers, but ten more tickets remain up for grabs.

With a perfect 4-0 mark each, Cote d'Ivoire and South Sudan moved on to the next round where teams will be divided into two groups (E and F) of six teams each to fight for the five tickets available for African nations for next year's World Cup in Indonesia, Japan and Philippines.

But what do the other 14 national teams need to keep their World Cup aspirations alive?

Two wins out of six games in the first round may or may not good enough to stay alive in the African Qualifiers. That's what history has shown.

In the 2019 edition of the African Qualifiers, Chad and Mali secured the last tickets in their groups, moved on to the next round after finishing 2-4 mark each, but DR Congo and Mozambique, on the other hand, had a similar 2-4 record, but both were eliminated, mainly, due to lower goal-differential.
