Italy hold first training camp ahead of third Qualifiers window

ROME (FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 European Qualifiers) - Unbeaten Italy have begun gearing up for the third window of the World Cup Qualifiers with the first of two training camps now underway in Rome.

The Azzurri, who will host Croatia on June 28 in Trieste and then travel to the Netherlands to face the Dutch in Groningen on July 1, held a workout on Tuesday in Roma. The players will have two training sessions on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday before wrapping up the camp on Saturday.

Not all Italy internationals are available due to club commitments with several involved in league play-off games.

The players that are taking part are Pietro Aradori, Francesco Candussi, Amedeo Della Valle, Raphael Gaspardo, Alessandro Gentile, Pierpaolo Marini, Davide Moretti, Mattia Palumbo, Achille Polonara and Amedeo Tessitori.

Aradori, Della Valle, Gaspardo, Gentile and Polonara have played games in the Qualifiers. Della Valle is the third leading scorer in the World Cup European Qualifiers with an average of 23 points per game.

An expanded squad will attend the second training camp taking place from June 10-14 in Rome.

Italy coach Meo Sacchetti is unwell and unable to attend this week's training camp, so two of his national team assistants - Massimo Maffezzoli and Paolo Conti - are running the practices.
