Greece call on the big guns to face Estonia, Great Britain

ATHENS (FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 European Qualifiers) - Greece have named many of their veterans, including those of leading clubs Panathinaikos and Olympiacos, to the squad ahead of next month's World Cup Qualifiers against Estonia and Great Britain.

Panathinaikos trio Nick Calathes, Thanasis Antetokounmpo and Ian Vougioukas, who played well in the 82-61 home triumph over Israel on November 27 in Heraklion, are in the squad, as are four Olympiacos players - Vangelis Mantzaris, Kostas Papanikolaou, Ioannis Papapetrou and Georgios Printeziss - that did not feature in the opening two wins.

Game 1 heroes Ioannis Bourousis of Guangsa Lions and Aris playmaker Giannis Athinaiou are on the list again.

Bourousis was virtually unstoppable in the 95-92 overtime win at the Brits, scoring 27 points and corralling 8 rebounds. Athinaiou hit a game-winning 3-pointer in overtime in arguably the most dramatic shot of the November Qualifiers.

Greece's excellent point guard from FIBA EuroBasket 2017, Koustos Sloukas of Fenerbahce, is in the squad.

Sloukas drilled 56.8 percent (17 of 29) of his attempts from 3-point range last summer, helping the Greeks survive a difficult Group Phase campaign in Helsinki and then beat Lithuania to reach the Quarter-Finals.

There are 10 players of Basketball Champions League clubs in the squad, including Gameday 8 MVP Lefteris Bochoridis.
