Will China halt their slump against Jordan?

BEIJING (FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Asian Qualifiers) - China have lost their last three Asian Qualifiers fixtures, but they have a good chance to halt their slump as they host Jordan next.

Can the Chinese raise their level of play high enough to deal Jordan their third loss of the Asian Qualifiers, or will the Falcons soar to their sixth win?

Key matchup:

Without Yi Jianlian in the fold, China will heavily rely on young buck Hu Jinqiu to carry their scoring load. The 20-year-old has actually done pretty well in the Asian Qualifiers, evens notching a 14-point, 12-rebound double-double in their last game, but he will face a stiff challenge here against the seasoned Zaid Abbas. The 34-year-old Abbas was rock-solid for Jordan in their previous match, putting up 18 points and 11 rebounds in a sorry loss to Korea. For sure, he will exert even more effort as they try to bounce back against the Chinese. He gives up a few inches to the taller Hu, but Abbas's wealth of experience and trademark versatility should make him more than a match for China's promising big man.

X-factor:

With superstar Guo Ailun laying a big fat egg in their loss to Lebanon and then skipping this match against Jordan, guard Wu Qian will take on a bigger role for the Chinese. The 24-year-old, 6ft 3in (1.90m) guard has steadily improved his performances here at the Asian Qualifiers, but he will need to be even more potent as he clashes with Jordan's deep backcourt featuring Mahmoud Abdeen, Mousa Alawadi and of course, Dar Tucker. Needless to say, Wu will have his hands full, but if he has a big night for China, anything can happen.

China outlook:

Sans Yi and Guo, China's star power and depth take big hits, but they have enough talent and size to still realistically have a good shot to win this game. Hu and Wu along with Zhou Peng and Ren Junfei will play major minutes for head coach Du Feng, while much will also be expected from Hu Mingxuan, Yu Dehao, Makan Kelanbaike and Han Dejun. They need to put forth a very strong effort to get the W at home, and though it'll be quite a challenge, China can make that happen, especially with their fans cheering them on.

Jordan outlook:

This is a prime opportunity for Jordan to get back on the winning track and bring down a powerhouse team. The Falcons badly need to get their sixth win to get closer to an outright berth in the FIBA Basketball World Cup, and this is as good a chance as any to do so. Of course, Tucker needs to be at his best along with Alawadi and Abdee, who had a subpar showing against Korea. Ditto for frontliners Mohammad Shaher Hussein and Ahmad Al Dwairi, who combined for just 12 points on 5-of-12 FG shooting in their previous game. Those two need to dominate the inside if Jordan are to bring home a win from Beijing.
