Adelaide to stage Australia's first home World Cup Qualifier

ADELAIDE (FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Asia Qualifiers) - Australia have announced that their first home game in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Asian Qualifiers on November 26 against Japan will be played in Adelaide.

The Boomers, who start Group B with a road game at Chinese Taipei on November 23, will take on the Japanese at the Titanium Security Arena in the capital city of the state of South Australia.

In the second window for the World Cup Qualifiers, Australia will host the Philippines on February 22 and Chinese Taipei three days later. The venues for those games have yet to be announced.

The third window will see Australia play at Japan and the Philippines on June 29 and July 2, respectively, to conclude the First Round of the Asia Qualifiers.

If Australia are in the top three, they will advance to the Second Round and take on the top three sides from a Group D which has Iraq, Qatar, Kazakhstan and Iran.

The World Cup will have 32 teams. Hosts China have an automatic spot and there will be seven other teams that qualify from Asia.

Australia and New Zealand used to compete against each other in Oceania but now both are in the Asia Region. The two played at the FIBA Asia Cup for the first time this summer in Beirut.

The Boomers captured the title without losing a game. In the championship game, Australia pulled away for a 79-56 victory over Iran.
