LUANDA (FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 African Qualifiers) - Cameroon saw off Egypt 80-60 in a shocking performance from the North African giants who have now lost out on a chance to play at the biggest basketball stage next summer.

Cameroon captain Jeremy N’Zeulie put up a man-of-the-match performance leading by example when he scored this window’s highest individual 30 points alongside making five assists and picking four rebounds.

His energy lit up Lazare Adingono’s side with Frank Yangue and Arnaud Adala Moto adding 12 and 10 points in that order to inspire Cameroon to a victory that lives them hoping to finish as the best third-placed team - a decision that will be made clear after the sixth and last window in February 2019.

Cameroon will know their fate when Central African Republic play against Nigeria, Mali and Rwanda in the February window but Adingono is delighted with the effort his side showed in this clash of the titans.

Following their two losses to Angola 80-60 on Friday and Morocco 63-57, Cameroon needed to overcome an in-form Egyptian side that had handed the reigning African champions Tunisia their first loss in two years.

Adingono said: “The players showed a lot of character today. Egypt is a very talented team and solid across the board. They are very balanced both on the inside and outside. I couldn’t be more proud of these guys and what we have achieved. You cannot believe the sacrifices that they have made to get to this place.”

Nzeulie told FIBA.basketball that "We are so happy with the win today because we fought hard as a team and we got the victory. We knew that Cameroon is among the top five teams in Africa and we hope that we have done the job to take us to the World Cup next year."

Angola, Nigeria and Tunisia are the African sides that have already booked their tickets to the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 in China.
