Adonis Rwabigwe: ''Rwanda's World Cup ticket chase is not over until the next window''

KIGALI (FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 African Qualifiers) – Group F standing of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 African Qualifiers have Rwanda seating in 5th place just ahead of Mali but that position is certainly not how they intend to finish by the end of the last window in February 2019.

That is the big dream in the head of  Adonis Rwabigwe who still believes that his team can make a drastic turn around to pick the last African ticket for the World Cup 2019 in China.

Though, his team has recorded 3 wins out of 9 games in the Qualifiers, Rwabigwe is toying with the theory of Rwanda coming out in a miraculous way to niche a spot in China ahead of Central African Republic and Cote d’ Ivoire.

"GIVING UP DOES NOT SAY ANYTHING ABOUT US COMPETING AND WE INTEND TO COMPETE UNTIL THE FINAL DAY."- Rwabigwe

The forward who stands at 6ft 7in (2.00m) admits that Senegal is a strong team and reasons that with Nigeria already qualified, the race may not be as tough as the other windows for his team.

"We had a bad run during the last window in Lagos. As a team, we take the blame and as a team we can still put up a good fight in the last window."

"Rwanda may be in 5th place on the Group F table but nothing says that we cannot end up in third place at the end of the last window next February."

"I believe if we can come together early enough, we can train together and build ourselves up for the task ahead. Nothing is in possible if we all put our minds to it. I believe in my team mates and we will go all the way to make the desired impact."

No doubt, many would think Rwabigwe thoughts are wishful thinking but the 23-year old  who averaged 8.3 points and 5.7 rebounds per contest in the African Qualifiers, told FIBA.basketball that he remains a positive mind to his thoughts.

"We don’t expect any easy games against Senegal, Cote d’ Ivoire and CAF but we are certainly going to give our best. Giving up does not say anything about us competing and we intend to compete until the final day," he concluded.
