Thailand, Malaysia collect win on final day, Indonesia complete Sweep

NONTHABURI (FIBA Asia Cup 2021 SEABA Pre-Qualifier) - The final day of the FIBA Asia Cup 2021 SEABA Pre-Qualifier concludes with Indonesia completing their undefeated run, Thailand exerting a large victory for their home crowd, and Malaysia sealing a win to qualify for the next round.

Despite Singapore putting up quite a fight in an attempt to steal the win, nothing was coming in the way of an undefeated Championship run by Indonesia in the FIBA Asia Cup 2021 SEAB Pre-qualifiers. Indonesia ran away late in the game to seal a 75-60 win.

Indonesia continued to showcase not only their high-level of talent, but the depth of that talent as well. Coach Fictor Roring showed that he has trust in all of players from the starters to the end of the bench, and the players repaid that trust with a remarkable 21 assists on 29 field goals. Shooting continued to be Indonesia’s strong suit, knocking down 41.7% of their three-pointers. Andakara Prastawa nailed three three-pointer in the game en route to a team leading 17 points.

Singapore tried to counter by getting aggressive and scoring down low, but it was tough to make a run after shooting only 16.7% from downtown. Leon Kwek had another stellar game with 25 points and 5 steals in the losing effort.

Thailand had no trouble finishing off their last opponent, Cambodia, running away with a 113-27 win despite resting key players Tyler Lamb, Teerawat Chantachon, and Darongphan Apiromvilaichai.

Coach Douglas Marty gave plenty of burn to his seldom used bench players, Tawatchai Suktub, Toby Tai Sathitsumpan, and Chatpol Chungyampin, giving them an opportunity to put up their most productive effort. Suktub led in scoring with 31 points and Sathitsumpan followed behind closely with 28 points on 5 triples. Chungyampin controlled the paint with 12 points and a whopping 20 boards.

Dominic Dar successful played in every possible minute of the tournament for Cambodia and finished this game with 13 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists.

Malaysia claimed the final qualifying spot for the FIBA Asia Cup 2021 Qualifier by beating Brunei Darussalam 86-50.

Even though Coach Brian Lester decided to rest most of his key players as well, it was still enough for Malaysia to come away with the important win. Malaysia’s two big men, Mak Lok Seng and Chin Zhi Shin, both put up monster numbers as Brunei struggled to stop their height and strength. Lok Seng had a 20-point, 20-rebound game and Zhi Shin finished with 29 points and 11 rebounds.

Brunei never gave up until the final buzzer and were once again led by Benjamin Sim (11 points) and Ahmad Termizi Bin Haji Noordeen (14 points).
