Pauian’s hopes rest on Quincy Davis

TAIPEI (FIBA Asia Champions Cup 2016) - Pauian, also known as Pure Youth Construction, will be the first Chinese Taipei team to compete in the FIBA Asia Champions Cup since 1984, and their hopes will rest on the efforts of naturalized player and national team mainstay Quincy Davis. Davis, who has been playing for Pauian since 2011, will provide a lot of size and depth for the Taipei quintet in the Chenzhou tourney, especially as the club doesn’t have an additional import.

Davis is fresh from leading Chinese Taipei in the FIBA Asia Challenge 2016, where they ended up at eighth place with a 3-win, 5-loss record. The 2.03m center averaged 18 points, 10.6 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game, and that kind of solid inside presence is expected to complement Pauian’s perimeter game, which will probably be anchored on Douglas Creighton and Lin Chin-Pang.

Pauian 12-player roster for FIBA Asia Champions Cup 2016
Douglas Creighton  Quincy Davis  Huang Chia-Ming  Lee Chi-Wei
Lin Chin-Pang  Lin Jen-Hung   Shih Chin-Yao  Su Bo-Jhang
Thomas Elliot Tan  Wu Chia-Chun  Wu Hung-Hsing  Wu Tai-Hao

Creighton is a veteran of the Taipei national side, playing in the FIBA Asia Cup 2012 and FIBA Asia Championship 2013, and he will be chief among Davis’s supporting cast in Chenzhou. Lin, for his part, was one of Pauian’s most reliable scorers in the 2015-2016 Super Basketball League (SBL) season. He averaged 8.7 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.3 steals in 2015-2016 and should be a prime choice for the starting shooting guard spot.

Another interesting name on the Pauian roster is center Wu Tai-Hao. Wu, who started playing for the Taipei national men’s team in 2005, has become one of the top tier veteran bigs in the SBL, and the hope of coach Yang I-Feng is that Wu will be a both a reliable back-up and frontcourt partner to Davis.

The only other time Chinese Taipei sent a team to this tournament was more than three decades ago, and they certainly want to make a good impression in the FIBA Asia Challenge 2016. Pauian will open their account against powerhouse Petrochimi of Iran on Day 1.

Aside from the Iranians, other teams joining the Taipei unit in Group A are Lebanon’s Al Riyadi, India’s ONGC and Qatar’s Al Rayyan. Al Ahli of UAE, Al Shorta of Iraq, Barsy Atyrau of Kazakhstan, the Malaysia Dragons and the Xinjiang Flying Tigers comprise Group B.
