Senegal in do or die encounter against Egypt

CAIRO (Egypt) - Senegal find themselves between a rock and a hard place when they take on hosts Egypt in their last Group Phase game at the ongoing FIBA U18 Women's African Championship on Tuesday.

The West Africans have lost all three games that they have played and will need to dig deep against a tough Egyptian side that is in familiar territory.

"We have been improving in every game that we play. Obviously, it is our first time to play at this level but as a team we know what is at stake and we shall give everything within our power to do our best," explained Ousmane Diallo, head coach of Senegal.

Their first encounter ended in favor of Egypt 54-48, a very closely contested game that brought out the best in both sides. The same is expected today as Senegal seek revenge against a side that will be fighting to protect their home court.

Egypt themselves are high on confidence after a spirited fight against the Malians on Sunday even though the 68-55 scoreline does not tell the full story.

Hager Yassine up against Victorine Thiaw - a back court battle that will go a long way in deciding who wins this tie is one to look out for as well as a repeat of Yara Hussein and Khadija Faye in the paint.

Egypt are looking to qualify for the FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup having missed out on the 2019 edition. Senegal on the other end last competed at that stage in 2013.
