Mali unstoppable, Uganda bounce back, Egypt beat hosts 

 

MONASTIR (Tunisia) - Defending champions Mali are leaving nothing to chance in proving that the last seven FIBA U16 Women's African Championship titles were deserve, if there was any doubt.

The Moussa Sidibe-coached side had another easy victory against Morocco, picking yet another century-score in a 102-29 outcome.

Mali were in charge from the get go, leading 21-09 in the opening quarter before going on a 23-08 rampage in the second period to take a massive 27-point advantage heading to the half-time break.

Nothing much changed in the second half as Mali added 13 points in the opening five minutes of the third quarter to take their lead to 40 and there was no coming back. 

Mali went 30-04 and 28-08 in the two quarters for another victory that takes them to 3-0 ratio. The side has won 108-24 against Rwanda and 70-32 against Angola. 

Assitan Diarisso scored 31 points in close to 30 minutes with Couda Keita adding 27 to the tally. Morocco's Ines Boulboul scored 10 in the loss. 

UGANDA MAKE AMENDS 

After falling to hosts Tunisia 74-50 in their opening fixture, Uganda made a comeback to win their second match 89-50 against Guinea.

Coach John Omondi rallied his charges from a 18-15 first quarter loss to give a 26-16 performance in the second quarter for a seven-point lead into the half-time break.

The East Africans exploded for 31 points in the third quarter 23 of those scored in the last five minutes of the period to go 29 points up and finish off in style with a 17-07 performance in the last quarter for the convincing victory. 

RWANDA SUFFER SECOND DEFEAT 

Angola picked up from where they left on day 2 to register a second win against Rwanda in a 74-42 outcome.

Ana Servico and Miraldina Buitchi were unstoppable, bagging 21 and 18 points with 12 rebounds for the latter.

The Francisco Chauangue-led side dominated the first half 22-09 and 22-11 and to take a healthy lead to the semis before returning for 17-14 and 13-08 to bag the win. 

Rwanda were dominated on all fronts as they allowed Angola 30 points from turnovers, 27 from fast breaks 17 second-chance points against 12, 09 and 10 respectively. 

TUNISIA'S GOOD RUN HALTED IN NORTH AFRICAN DERBY

Injy Amr led an Egyptian onslaught against hosts Tunisia in a 64-49 outcome that put a stop to the latter's good run.

Prior to this, Tunisia had won 105-35 against Guinea on Friday before felling Uganda 74-50 on Saturday.

The Emadeldin Mahmoud -coached Egypt saw Amr score 14 while Haya Alhalawany added 11 to the tally for victory.

Malak Chehidi (13),  Islem Ayari (12) and Ines Ben Rejeb (11) led the fight for the hosts.

FIBA
