Strawther's 40 points ranks tied for ninth in U19 World Cup history

HERAKLION  (Greece) - Julian Strawther's 40-point performance against Russia was not enough to get Puerto Rico fifth place at the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup 2019. But it was the ninth-most in history.

HERAKLION  (Greece) - Julian Strawther's 40-point performance against Russia was not enough to get Puerto Rico fifth place at the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup 2019. But it was the top scoring output in Heraklion and ranks ninth all-time in the history of the competition.

Strawther, who also collected 35 points in a game against China earlier in the tournament, was still a bit short of another Puerto Rican who holds the all-time mark: Michael Rosario in 2009 against France. But Strawther tied for ninth place all time with Brazilian Paulo Villas Boas, who hit for 40 against Soviet Union in 1983, and Korean Song Kyochang, who tallied 40 against Serbia in 2015.

"It's just a blessing to be able to be here. As a 17-year-old to have an opportunity to play at the U19 World Cup means everything," said Strawther, who was born in 2002, meaning he can play in this event in 2021 as well.
